What is Ecology?
Ecology is the scientific study of the processes influencing the distribution and abundance of organisms, the interactions among organisms, and the interactions between organisms and the transformation and flux of energy and matter. German biologist Ernst Haeckel defined ecology as the study of the relationship of organisms with their environment. Over the years there have been many additions to the definition of ecology as science makes more discoveries.
The ecosystem that I am studying is the lake at James J. Braddock Park in North Bergen New Jersey. It has a lake with many animals and plants. Many animals live under the water and people run there everyday and enjoy the wonderful view. There are ducks, fish turtles, birds, and many other animals in this ecosystem. The sun always shines bright and it is just a wonderful place. There is a wooded area right by the lake with trees and a bridge leading into a soccer field and a baseball field on the other side of the park . Across from the fields there is a tennis court and child attractions like swings, slides, monkey bars etc.
